Manchadi
This home video series designed as a compilation of animated folk tales and folk songs presented by an animated anchor ‘Twinkle’ was initially brought out in 2005 after one year of its broadcast in the Malayalam television channel Kairali, and contained stories from Panchatantra and Aesop fables. Later seasons were compiled from the rich folk tale tradition of India panning different States.
Manchadi has four seasons of 40 minutes plus episodes and has been translated to Tamil (Pattampoochi), Telugu (Manjeera), Hindi (Thithali), and English (Butterflies).
Manchadi Season 1 (48 minutes, 2005)
A collection of animated folk tales and songs for children in Malayalam. The stories are selected from the Indian classic Panchatantra, and the songs from the popular folk literature in Malayalam. Manchadi is also the first 3D animated home video content in Malayalam for kids. The video includes seven stories and seven rhymes. Contains some of the earliest and most popular songs from Manchadi.
Manchadi Season 2 (42 minutes, 2005)
A collection folk tales and songs for children in Malayalam. The stories are selected from Panchatantra and Aesop Fables and songs from the folk literature in Malayalam. The title includes eight stories and eight rhymes. This, along with Manchadi Season 1 contain the original content we used for telecast in the television programme ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ in 2005 and happens to be among the oldest among our creations.
Manchadi Season 3 (49 minutes, 2007)
This collection includes five folk stories from different States of India and five folk songs from Kerala. The stories are from Meghalaya, Assam, UP and Kerala and contain good moral lessons. The folk songs reflect the culture of the State. ‘Panchara Kunju’, one of the most viewed songs and ‘Drummer Monkey’, one of the most popular stories in Manchadi series are in this season.
Manchadi Season 4 (41 minutes, 2010)
A collection of folk tales and songs in Malayalam for children. It includes four folk tales from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and North East India and three songs. The stories are humorous and contain moral lessons, and two of the songs are based on folk tales of Kerala. The third song about train, incidently one of the most popular songs and ‘Undan and Undi’ the popular story from Kerala are huge hits in the Manchadi series.
Manchadi Season 5 (51 minutes, 2024)
The latest in the Manchadi series, includes five stories and two songs introduced by Dimple, the new cute and bubbly anchor. The stories and songs happen in the state of Vellarikka Pattanam (Cucumber County), which is ruled by an incompetent and foolish King named Sumbhakan. Vellarikkapattanam is metaphorical of a lawless land, crazy norms and a superstitious and foolish society. Manchadi V is purely an entertainer, a garland of folktales and songs beautifully threaded together. It also sarcastically portraits the stupidity of human behaviour, that gives good lessons in life to children. It also introduces a new little hero Veeru, who steers the story ahead.
